What is V2Ray (VLESS over WebSocket and TLS) and when should you use it?

V2Ray (and the compatible Xray) is a tool for building encrypted connections that look like ordinary web traffic. The V2Ray accounts on this site use VLESS over WebSocket with TLS on port 443.
What that means
- Port 443 with TLS is the same port and encryption that normal HTTPS websites use.
- WebSocket is a common way for websites to keep a connection open.
- VLESS is the lightweight protocol inside, identified by a unique ID (UUID) instead of a password.
To a network that only allows web browsing, the connection looks much like visiting a website. That is why V2Ray often works where WireGuard or OpenVPN are blocked.
When to use it
- Hotel, office, school or public Wi-Fi that blocks VPNs.
- Networks where WireGuard connects but no traffic passes.
When not to
On an ordinary home or mobile connection, WireGuard is simpler and usually faster.
